With Vertices as your backup tape management solution, you can rest at ease that your sensitive data will not be destroyed prematurely and you can confidently be prepared to respond to internal and external audits.
Vertices is a modular solution, enabling you to utilize the features that only apply to your tape management needs.
Automation Module
Working in a SAN or LAN environment, the Vertices® and VaultLedger tape management system easily integrates with your backup application and automatically logs the backup tapes, monitors the tape’s retentions, controls the tape’s movements, and scratches the outdated backup tapes. Of course, automation increases efficiency and accuracy by removing slower, manual processes as well as “human error.” And since the Vertices tape management system seamlessly integrates with your backup application, you receive one report with the status of the day’s entire backup jobs, including all failed or canceled jobs that need to be addressed. The Vertices tape management software solution integrates seamlessly with the most common backup applications such as:
Logger Module
With Legacy Logger, you can easily import information into the Vertices® and VaultLedger backup tape management system from your legacy tape management systems, such as CA-1®, RMM, or BL/LIB®. Now legacy customers can take full advantage of Vertices’ powerful and time-saving open systems tape management features like:
Having the Vertices tape management system log legacy tape information also provides centralized control over all open systems and legacy media giving you a complete tape tracking solution.
Flexible Input Formats The Vertices Legacy Logger Module allows input of legacy tape management software information in a variety of formats:
Full Data Set Information
Vertices tape management software imports all the information of a particular data set, such as volume number, data set name, creation date, etc. This information is then attached to a data set profile in Vertices, allowing the user to utilize all of the robust features of the Vertices tape management solution.
Media Reconciliation Only
Vertices only imports volume movement information and does not import any specific data set information. This allows an organization to reconcile media moving to other vaults with the Vertices Bar Code Scanning Module, which uploads action lists to a remote scanner for easy verification before moving tapes to offsite vaults.
Wireless and Wired Bar Code Scanning Module
Simplify the logging and reconciling of media with the Vertices® and VaultLedger backup tape management system’s keyboard and wireless scanning solutions. These advanced scanners let you quickly and easily enter media information into the Vertices tape management database for efficient, accurate tape management.
New Bar Code Scanning Software
At the heart of our Bar Code Scanning Module is our software. With the latest versions of Vertices (5.2 and higher), we’ve updated our Vertices Bar Code Scanning software. The new features allow you to take full advantage of the latest upgrades in Vertices 5.2 and higher.

Simply download Vertices information into the portable, handheld scanner and begin logging and reconciling media (as well as checking for scratch media) in any location. It allows you to:
Keyboard Wedge Scanner Produced by Symbol, a leader in scanning technology, the compact Keyboard Wedge Scanner hooks directly to your computer for immediate input of bar coded media information. It allows you to:
RFID Module
Vertices® and VaultLedger Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Module brings you unprecedented levels of accuracy and convenience. Using ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID volser labels from Imation (other manufacturers are available), the Vertices RFID Module can capture tape information from as much as six feet away for individual cartridges and up to two feet away for cartridges contained in transport cases. And with the Symbol MC9090G handheld RFID wireless batch scanner, you can perform entire vault inventories in less time than ever before while enjoying the 100% accuracy that Imation’s RFID volser labels provide. Plus, you can change the number the RFID label sends out by initializing tags on the fly.
It works with your current system.
At the heart of the Vertices RFID solution is the Symbol MC9090G scanner-a dual-format scanner that easily works with both RFID technology as well as traditional tape cartridge bar code volser labels. The dual compatibility allows users to immediately enjoy the benefits of RFID technology without having to revamp their entire bar code-based system. In addition, the Imation UHF RFID volser labels also contain bar code information so you can use them with older systems.
Keeping your data safe, secure and always at your fingertips.
One of the more exciting features of the Vertices RFID solution is a proactive “search” function that quickly locates cartridges by searching for their RFID signal. Simply enter a cartridge number (or series of numbers) into the MC9090G handheld and begin scanning the area. The scanner will notify you when you are close to the missing or misplaced tape. Moreover, you can also create watch lists. Watch lists are similar to the search function but perform in a more passive way, identifying out-of-sequence or missing tapes as you go about your daily tape management routine.
Offline IT Asset Module
The Offline IT Asset Module is a unique module of our tape management system that mitigates compliance and litigation risk by ensuring that the disposition of your offline IT assets are properly managed and thoroughly secure. It is a single, integrated tool that ensures the secure destruction of hard disk drives and centralizes your entire data management process. With the AssetAware Module you can:
Comprehensive documentation for easy compliance The most important aspect of compliance and reducing the legal risks associated with IT asset disposition is having the proper – and well documented – procedures and processes in place. The AssetAware module does just that. Every movement of your hard drive or other offline IT asset – from inception to destruction – can be tracked and documented. The result is a complete paper trail consolidated in an easy-to-use, Web-accessible application and available to auditors with a click of the mouse.
