Vertices 5.3: The Best Just Keeps Getting Better.
We have made some fantastic new improvement to Vertices to give you even more control and flexibilty when it comes to managing your backup tapes. And many of the improvements came from requests from our valued clients. So keep the suggestions coming in, and we'll continue to improve Vertices—the world's leading open-system tape management solution.
What's New in Vertices 5.3?
Better Inventory Reconciliation
- We've given you the option to scan the media at your offsite vendor, onsite facility, or take a report from your offsite vendor and compare that list against a site in Vertices. Any discrepancies will be indicated, and you will be walked through how to resolve them. In addition, all discrepancies, successful scans, and resolutions are journalized for auditing purposes.
- Download a subsection of a tape rack or media to the scanner, and scan the media. The reconcile is done on the scanner itself. Afterwards load the file back into Vertices to update the database with the changes made. All scans and resolutions are journalized for auditing purposes.
- You now have the option to scan media and save the file as a *.csv file, which can be used in a variety of third-party programs.
More Flexibility
- Easily mark media to indicate it's encrypted, it needs further researching, or it is a virtual tape
- In datasets, the keyword has changed to Automation, and it can now map tapes to media and master servers. This provides an easy way to see what tapes were backed up by what Media and Master Servers. In addition, you can see what keywords were written to the media.
- You're now able to download even more information to your batch scanner including user, sites, slots, and media
More Control
- We've added a "Purge Date" column on scanned media, allowing you to easily discover the purge date of a particular piece of media
- Quickly discover media types by site by simply running a quick report that indicates the number of desired media at each Vertices site
- Vertices now only resends selected FTPs instead of all FTPs when there is an error, keeping you and the offsite vendor synchronized with your media
New Scanner Features
- Passwords are now sent to the scanner from Vertices allowing only those with the appropriate username and password to access the scanner
- The font size of the scanner was increased for easier viewing
- Prefixes are now in a drop down menu, which means no more scanning the appropriate prefix just select one from the drop down menu
