VERTICES MEDIA MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE INCLUDED WITH UNISYS AQUANTA ES5000 ENTERPRISE SERVERS

Brings mainframe-class media management to new industry-standard Unisys systems…

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Feb. 22, 1999 -- B&L Associates, Inc., a leading provider of computer media management solutions, today announced that Unisys® Corporation will include B&L's recently announced Vertices® media management software system with each Aquanta ES5000 server.

Packaging Vertices with Aquanta™ ES5000 servers supports Unisys' objective to improve the ability of the Microsoft Windows NT operating system to handle tasks requiring enterprise-class performance, uninterrupted availability and ease of administration. Vertices supports this effort by providing the same level of sophisticated, media management for the Aquanta ES5000 server line that B&L Associates has traditionally provided for Unisys mainframe systems. Vertices is a comprehensive, enterprise-wide, media management system that manages all removable media regardless of platform or source of data origination. It is ideal for the Aquanta ES5000 since it manages media from open systems environments, including Microsoft Windows NT and UNIX as well as from traditional mainframe environments, including Unisys installations.

Vertices keeps track of all computer media, including magnetic tape, disk, CD-ROM, Digital Linear Tape (DLT), Magneto Optical Disk, Digital Audio Tape (DAT) and any other type of media regardless of the source. Vertices transparently provides complete vault and retention management for media from a single, centralized location according to user defined parameters.

"Comprehensive media management is a mandatory component of any enterprise environment," said Bill Maclean, Unisys vice president of product program management. "As organizations begin their movement from existing platforms to the new Windows NT operating system, they will require a scalable, easily used media management product to complete their system management requirements. The Vertices product from B&L Associates leverages the media management expertise they established in the mainframe arena and modernizes it to support enterprise NT clients."

"B&L has provided storage and media management solutions for Unisys systems for over 20 years. We understand their approach to enterprise systems," commented Bryce Kramer, president and co-founder of B&L Associates. "By making Vertices available with the Aquanta ES5000 server line, Unisys is extending that mainframe-class media management to open systems so their customers can benefit from our expertise."

Vertices is a Microsoft Windows NT-based software application that runs on standalone or networked workstations. The version that is packaged with the Aquanta ES5000 server is a single-user license that controls up to 25 media. Users can upgrade to other single-user and multiple-user versions of Vertices, which control an unlimited number of media by contacting B&L Associates directly at 877/VERTICES (877/837-8423) or http://www.bandl.com.
